FAQ

General Inquiries

  • Psychotherapy is a collaborative process between a therapist and a client aimed at facilitating self-exploration, personal growth, and emotional healing. Through a series of regular, in-depth conversations, psychotherapy helps individuals gain a deeper understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The ultimate goal is to help clients overcome difficulties and challenges, make meaningful changes, and live more fulfilling lives.

  • Deciding to see a psychotherapist is a personal choice and often depends on each person’s needs and circumstances. However, there are some common indicators that suggest it may be time to seek the help of a professional. These include persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or emotional distress that interfere with your daily life and functioning, struggling with life transitions or significant events, experiencing interpersonal problems or conflicts in your relationships, a desire for personal growth, self-exploration, and a deeper understanding of yourself and your life, persistent self-destructive behaviors, thoughts, or patterns that you cannot seem to change on your own, and the feeling that your current coping mechanisms or support network are insufficient to handle your emotional needs.

Remember that seeking help is a sign of strength and self-awareness. A psychotherapist can provide a supportive and non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, develop new coping strategies, and work towards a more fulfilling and authentic life.

  • We can conduct our sessions virtually or in-person, depending on your preference.

If you would like to meet in-person, our sessions will take place at our office in Midtown Toronto: 164 Eglinton Avenue East, Suite 510.

We use Jane for virtual appointments (as well as scheduling and billing for all clients.)

  • Sessions are 50 minutes in length.

  • We begin weekly for a minimum of four consecutive weeks to establish safety, rhythm, and a shared foundation for depth work. After that, weekly is preferred to maintain momentum; if needed, we can shift to every other week. We don’t book less frequently than bi-weekly, as longer gaps don’t support an integrative depth approach. If life gets intense, frequency can temporarily increase or decrease—we’ll decide together and revisit as your needs evolve.

  • While significant improvement can occur in weeks or months, lasting change takes a long time, and positive outcomes are stronger when you are committed to this work for the long term.

  • We offer a free 30-minute consultation so you can meet a practitioner, share what’s bringing you in, and ask questions about our approach and fit. To book, either fill out this form or email the practitioner you’d like to meet directly—addresses are listed on our Team page.

  • We require 24 hours notice by e-mail for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. For clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, we will do my best to schedule you for later in the week, however this cannot be guaranteed. If we are unable to find another time for your appointment, you will be charged the full fee.

  • To get the most out of your therapy sessions, try your best to be open, genuine, and reflective. Embrace vulnerability by expressing emotions, even when they're uncomfortable, and practice patience and self-compassion throughout the therapeutic process. Engage actively during sessions, prioritize therapy by attending consistently, and consider keeping a dream journal to deepen your work. Adopting these attitudes will help create a strong foundation for a transformative therapeutic experience.

Costs and Coverage

  • For current fees, please visit our Team page and open the therapist’s profile—rates are listed there.

  • Unfortunately, OHIP does not cover the services of the therapists in our practice.

  • Coverage varies by plan and by the clinician’s credentials/registration. Please check with your insurer to confirm which mental-health providers your plan covers and any limits (annual maximums, session maximums, etc.). Then choose a therapist whose credentials match your plan’s criteria—each clinician’s designation and registration details are listed on our Team page and on receipts for reimbursement.

  • In Canada, psychotherapy services provided by Registered Psychotherapists qualify as a medical expense under the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines. You can claim these expenses through the medical expense tax credit on your tax return. The exact amount you will receive as a credit depends on your income level. For more detailed information, consult the CRA website here or seek advice from a tax professional.
