Experiences of Psychosis

Experiences like hearing or seeing things others don’t, beliefs that feel powerfully true, or feeling watched or confused can be frightening and isolating.

We meet these experiences without shame or dismissal. In our integrative depth approach, care focuses on safety and steadiness in the present while making space to understand what these experiences may be signalling—stress and sleep disruption, trauma and loss, identity and cultural context, substance effects, and patterns in relationships.

“In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.”

— C. G. Jung

What the work can include, blending practical and depth pathways:

  • Create a shared language for voices, visions, and beliefs; reduce fear by naming patterns and triggers

  • Catch early warning signs and stressors; craft a personalized plan for grounding, support, and rest

  • Protect sleep and daily rhythms; choose environments that soothe rather than overwhelm

  • Practise ways of relating to voices and thoughts (setting limits, negotiating, choosing when to engage) to reduce distress and regain agency

  • Explore meanings and life events connected to experiences—trauma, grief, identity-based stress, migration, spiritual questions—at a safe pace

  • Include trusted family/partners when helpful; strengthen communication and reduce conflict and stigma at home

  • Address substance use if it intersects with symptoms; plan harm-reduction steps that fit your reality

  • Prepare crisis/safety plans for spikes; identify supports and steps that keep you safe

  • Coordinate with your family doctor and psychiatrist; we can refer and collaborate around medication options while therapy continues

  • Attend to culture, race, faith, and power—how these shape interpretation, risk, and access to care—and respond in ways that honour your context

The aim is not to erase experience, but to reduce distress, increase choice, and widen life: more safety and stability now, and a deeper understanding that supports dignity, connection, and meaning.
